STANSKI takes responsibility for creating and maintaining cross country ski trails on the Eastern edge of St. Albert. Follow Sturgeon road to the Kingswood Park Shelter, where there is lots of parking and a warm place to change or wax your skis. Around the shelter, the groomers maintain loops for both classic and skating technique. There is night skiing with a 1 km lit loop in Kingswood Park and a connecting 1 km street light lit trail that parallels Sturgeon Rd. When conditions are suitable, STANSKI packs and tracks a section of the Sturgeon River to further expand the ski trail system.
There are also numerous ski areas around the capital region to ski at, including multiple locations in the River Valley of Edmonton, as well as outlying areas such as Blackfoot Recreation Area, Strathcona Wilderness Centre, Chickakoo Recreation Area, or Elk Island National Park. More information on Edmonton’s trails can be found at their website at edmontonnordic.ca, and also check out the Northern Alberta Trails Report for trail conditions and contact information for many other areas.
